LAC LA BICHE - On Sept. 22, under bright fall skies, 340 students at Aurora Middle School in Lac La Biche, along with their teachers, participated in the school’s annual Terry Fox Run.

This event coincided with National Terry Fox School Run Day, with students and staff at thousands of schools across Canada running, jogging, and walking in support of cancer research and to honour the legacy of Fox, who ran 5,373 km over 143 days in 1980 before being forced to end his Marathon of Hope in Thunder Bay after cancer had appeared in his lungs.

Fox died on June 28, 1981.

On Friday, participants in Lac La Biche spent one hour travelling in a loop around the school as well as nearby Vera M. Welsh Elementary School, heading back to class once the event had concluded. Leading up to the annual Terry Fox Run, students and their parents raised money through online donations that went directly to the Terry Fox Foundation.
