Lac La Biche Lakers drop back-to-back games leading to Thanksgiving weekend

The Lac La Biche Lakers, in their first season playing in the National Junior Hockey League, were hoping the Thanksgiving weekend would bring something to be thankful for on the scoreboard.

The Lakers went into their Friday and Saturday games with a season record of one win and two losses, the two losses coming back to back over the previous weekend with an 8-1 loss to the visiting Gibbons Pioneers and a 12-2 thumping at the Plamondon Coop arena by the High Prairie Red Wings.

It’s been a tough season so far for the Lac La Biche Lakers, who began their inaugural season in the National Junior Hockey League (NJHL) in late September.

Following a 6-4 loss to the Northern Alberta Lightning on Sept. 27 followed by an 8-6 win against the Gibbons Pioneers on Sept. 28, the Lakers suffered double defeats in a pair of home games against the Pioneers and High Prairie Red Wings over the Oct. 4 weekend.

The Lakers will be on the road to face  the Edson Eagles on October 11. The team will be back on the Bold Center home ice on October 11 for a rematch with the High Prairie Red Wings. The home game starts at 7:30 pm.

Going into the Thanksgiving weekend games, the Lakers sit at the bottom of their five-team NJHL North Division.
