No new updates in church fire investigation

Police, fire officials continue to delve into cause of Canada Day blaze at St. Andrew's Anglican Church

LAC LA BICHE - A Lac La Biche church remains empty and damaged as the investigation continues into the suspicious fire that gutted the lakeshore Lac La Biche building.

There are no new updates in the ongoing investigation of the blaze that caused extensive damage to the interior of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church on Lac La Biceh's Churchill Drive in the early morning hours of Canada Day.

John Kokotilo, Lac La Biche County's regional fire chief says local officials continue to wait for results from fire investigators.

“So far, we haven’t heard anything new from the private contractor who is investigating the fire,” he said. “As soon as anything changes, we will notify the public.”

Lac La Biche RCMP Const. Jordan Walker confirmed that the incident is still under investigation, and  that police will release updated information if charges are laid.

Kevin Pederson, the  reverend of St. Andrews Anglican Church, has been in frequent contact with fire and police officials since the first of the month.

“So far, they have requested a list of key holders as well as pictures of the interior of the church to see what it looked like before the fire,” Pederson explained. “It’s been at least a week since I have spoken with the RCMP or fire services, and there have been no new updates that I have been made aware of.”
