Lac La Biche Medical Clinic doctors address shortage and changes

Sudden departure of doctor, ward closures at Lac La Biche hospital, ongoing shortages are focus of health clinic statement

Over the last week, the sudden departure of one of the community's long-serving physicians, who was also the hospital chief of staff, has created community concerns not only for the dozens of patients under that specific doctor's care, but for the continuing reduction of physicians in the community and the overall delivery of healthcare services in rural areas.

Today, officials at the Lac La Biche Associated Medical Clinic have presented a statement to the Lac La Biche POST newsroom they hope will ease concerns of community members and highlight the challenges that continue to face the area's healthcare delivery.

Thank you for offering us an opportunity to address our community.

As physician associates at the Lac La Biche Associate Medical Clinic, we acknowledge our community’s concerns after recent losses of physicians. We cherish the trust of our patients and are committed to serving the medical interest of our residents.

Patient care continues

Although none of the current physicians are taking on new patients, we’d like to remind our residents that all physicians at the clinic are pleased to consult all those seeking care, whether the patient has a family doctor or not.

We are awaiting direction from Alberta Health Services in the context of expected service interruptions in the form of anesthetic and obstetric services at the William J. Cadzow Hospital.

Recruiting

We are working tirelessly on recruiting physicians to this wonderful town we call home. We continue to rely on the help from Alberta Health services, Lac la Biche County, and Mayor Paul Reutov to ensure we recruit the most qualified physicians.

Thank you for trusting the Associated Medical Clinic. We look forward to serving our community for many decades to come.
