Elk Point town council voted Monday night to hold the line on utility costs in 2020, at least for now.
The 2019 rates of $60 per month for basic water, up to 14 cubic meters, with $4 per cubic meter over 14 cubic meters, $17 per month for basic sewer and $15 per month for garbage collection all mirror the 2019 rates, as does the $7 per month for water meter replacement, which has been in place for the past three years.
The water meter fees have been placed in a water meter account, with some already used to install the meter heads in new buildings or when meters required replacement. That $7 per month fee could be removed later in the year, when the cost of replacing all the old watermeters with electronic meter heads is completed.
The new technology will allow town staff to read meters simply by driving by the homes and businesses where they are located, rather than physically reading each meter on that property.
Council approved a motion at their Nov. 25 meeting to enter into a contract with Neptune Technology Group to replace the remaining current meter heads throughoutthe town at a cost of $206.250, with the work to be completed in 2020.
