RCMP say a fire at Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village, near Elk Island Park, is now under control. An update was released by RCMP at 9:45 p.m. on Friday.

A fire has spread into buildings at the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village, located on Highway 16. Residences are being evacuated in the area, and a portion of Highway 16 is closed, according to RCMP.

Simeon King, who lived in Lac La Biche until the age of 15 and still has family connections to the area, will be setting out on June 1 from Victoria, and cycling 7,500 km to St. John's with the goal of raising $100,000 for Type 1 Diabetes.

The event, which is hosted by the Lac La Biche Boxing Club, features boxers from across Alberta and Saskatchewan, and some from the Lac La Biche area also.
