Although he's a bit on the tiny side, Geovanni Joseph Vic Quinney's entrance into the world will not be soon forgotten.

Geovanni, weighing 5 lbs 15 oz and measuring 19 inches, was the first baby born at the St. Therese – St. Paul Healthcare Centre in 2014. The New Year's baby arrived at 2:47 p.m. on Jan. 1, via c-section.

His mom, Kylee Houle, says she was surprised by her son's early arrival since his due date wasn't until Jan. 22. She adds that when she saw the advertisement in the St. Paul Journal for the New Years baby, she thought it would be neat to have the first baby of 2014, but didn't think it would be her own.

After feeling some cramps and what she thought were some stronger Braxton Hicks contractions on Dec. 31, Houle went to a regular scheduled doctor's appointment where she discovered her son might arrive sooner than anticipated.

“I was already in labour," says Houle, who also has a six-year-old daughter and a three-year-old daughter. She says that when her three-year-old, Saraya, saw her new baby brother for the first time, “her eyes lit up . . . she's really happy."

Although Houle says she had some complications during her pregnancy with Geovanni, he was born healthy, although a few weeks early. The family was discharged from the hospital on Jan. 3, and received a collection of gifts donated by local businesses in honour of being this year's New Years baby.
