ST. PAUL – Every Tuesday throughout July, the St. Paul Regional Family & Community Support Services (FCSS) is hosting a series of bonfire and hangout events at the Lions Park between 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

These events are drop-in and divided into three categories. The hangout time for ages 12 to 15 is from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., followed by ages 16 to 18 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. for ages 19 to 25.

Faithe Hunter is the coordinator of the initiative. “We hope to make some connections within a community and allow the youth to have a place to find resources and make friends,” she said, adding there will be games, a propane fire pit, and marshmallows to roast.

The initiative is under the FCSS’ youth drop-in program that typically happens from Monday to Friday for ages 13-18.

Young people are given a hangout space at the FCSS building, Monday to Friday, between 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. It is free and there are few requirements to get in. Youth can walk in, hang out, study, complete school assignments, get some free snacks, and just say hello.

“Over the summer, we changed our hours a little bit,” says Hunter.

From Monday to Thursday, under the youth drop-in program umbrella, the FCSS is hosting free youth drop-in activities like outdoor games, cooking sessions, movie mondays, or yoga.
