St. Paul U18 female hockey team hosts home tournament

The U18 St. Paul Canadiens' female hockey team hosted a tournament over the weekend on Jan. 4 and Jan. 5, with the Edmonton Storm claiming gold.

ST. PAUL – The U18 St. Paul Canadiens' female hockey team hosted teams from across the province during a home tournament over the weekend on Jan. 4 and Jan. 5, with the Edmonton Storm claiming gold.

The Storm defeated the Sherwood Park Fuzion for the medal, while the Easy Central Fillies from Saskatchewan defeated the Airdrie Lightning for the bronze medal.

Cody Machney, head coach for the Canadiens, said while the Canadiens may not achieved its desired results, he commended the players for their performance. "It wasn't due to the lack of effort," he said. "Our girls gave everything they had."

Expressing pride for the Canadiens, he said the tournament was a good opportunity for the players to get better and come back stronger in the future. The Canadiens finished with one win, one tie, and one loss.
