Teams hit the rink for men's open bonspiel in St. Paul

After countless hours of competition, Team Speedee Lube and Ink Accounting battled in the finals, with the latter emerging victorious.

ST. PAUL – The St. Paul Curling Club’s Men’s Open spiel returned to St. Paul over the weekend, with eight teams competing for the top spot.

After hours of competition, Team Speedee Lube and Ink Accounting battled in the finals, with the latter emerging victorious.

Skip Justin Anderson with Ink Accounting said it was a hard-fought battle against Speedee Lube, a well-known, competitive team in the St. Paul curling scene. It was Speedee Lube who won the 2023 Zarowny Motors Super League.

“They're usually the team to beat,” said Anderson.

Skip Gerry Jean of Speedee Lube congratulated the winning team, noting how close the game was, before thanking all those involved for bringing the tournament together, including organizer Matt Kaprowoski, as well as ice makers Tyson and Tyler Wagner.

Anderson agreed and hopes for more bonspiels in St. Paul in the future.

“Maybe next year, we’ll have more [teams] come,” he said.

Anderson also thanked everyone who came out to support the players and the curling club.

"We certainly appreciate their effort to make time to come out and watch us," he said. “They don’t have to be cheering, but just up there, having a good time and socializing.”
