A St. Paul man who was charged last year with possession of controlled substances will be heading to trial on Aug. 17, 2011.

On Jan. 13, Bernie Gamache entered a not guilty plea in St. Paul Provincial Court and elected to stand trial before a provincial court judge, rather than a jury.

Elk Point and St. Paul RCMP found two marijuana grow operations at a rural residence north of the Town of St. Paul on Oct. 15. The two detachments, along with Alberta Sheriffs, found and seized marijuana plants, cultivated marijuana, hashish, two firearms and $13,000 in Canadian and American currency, according to an RCMP press release sent at the time. Following the raid, RCMP charged Gamache with production of marijuana, two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, careless storage of firearms and possession of proceeds of crime.
