The sound of beautiful music filled the Town of St. Paul on June 12 as Nova Musica Community Orchestra, conducted by Bill Dimmer, presented a benefit concert to raise funds for the Ride to Conquer Cancer at École du Sommet.

Stéphane Marien, Joannie Gourde and Alain Mahe organized the event and all will be participating in the Ride to Conquer Cancer taking place this weekend in the Canadian Rockies. Through ticket sales and an auction of donated items, the benefit raised $2,173.

“The benefit concert was a great success,” said Mahe in an interview after the event.

Nova Muscia performed a number of pieces by composed by Alexandre Borodine, Ludwig van Beethoven, Bedrich Smetana, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Lionel Bart.

“I loved it and wish we could have more of these arts visit us in St. Paul,” said St. Paul resident Margaretta Chen who attended the performance with her daughter Julia.

On their way out of town Nova Musica landed on the UFO landing pad where they were greeted by Town Mayor Glenn Andersen and performed a medley of space themed music. Dimmer donned a pair of Spock ears to add to the spirit of the event.

“It was fun,” said Andersen after the performance. “It brings St. Paul into the limelight and that’s a good thing.”
