The Lac La Biche Lakers had two wins and one loss over the March 7 weekend as they faced off against the High Prairie Red Wings in the first round of the 2025 National Junior Hockey League (NJHL) playoffs.

GLENDON - It came down to the teams from Glendon and St. Paul Regional High School battling it out for both the boys' and girls' St. Paul Athletics Association (SPAA) banners on March 5.

Phillips, who has been involved with youth soccer in the Lakeland region for roughly the past decade, received the Award of Merit from the Alberta Soccer Association (ASA).

The Lakers will be playing Friday night against the High Prairie Red Wings at the Lac La Biche Bold Centre.

Game 4 is set to take place on Friday in St. Paul between the St. Paul Canadiens and the Wainwright Bisons.

The season for the Portage College Voyageurs men's and women's squads wrapped up over the Feb. 21 weekend during the North Regional Qualifiers 2 in Grande Prairie.

The series now moves to the Clancy Richard Arena, where the Canadiens are set to host Game 3 on March 4, and Game 4 on March 7. 

Wayne Mah, coaching director for Lac La Biche FC, said the organization is in need of more volunteer coaches.

Fuder, who currently plays for the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League, said minor hockey teaches kids life skills such as teamwork, the importance of hard work and competition.

Teams from across the Lakeland Soccer District in the U13 to U17 categories went head-to-head at the Reid Fieldhouse in Cold Lake.
