ST. PAUL - A group of St. Paul Curling Club representatives were in for a surprise when they travelled to the Curling Alberta Business of Curling Symposium in April, held at the Red Deer Curling Club.
Troy Bohn, president, Baxter Bailey, vice-president, Tyson Wagner, the St. Paul club's ice technician and TJ Wagner, general manager, took part in an innovative fair during the symposium, where participants were asked to present something unique they are doing for their club,
"We presented our '3 Wheeler Bonspiel'," explains TJ. The 3 Wheeler Bonspiel was held this past curling season and saw teams of three, rather than the usual four, sign up at a cost of $33 each. There was also a $333 raffle prize where tickets were 3 for $9. The event was a popular one among curlers in the area.
A group of judges at the symposium then chose the top five ideas presented, and the symposium participants voted for the winner, "and our club won," explains TJ.
In recognition of their creativity, the St. Paul Curling Club received $1,500 to go toward the local junior curling program.
